Guyanese accredited as an ICAO Aviation Security Auditor

Guyana’s aviation security and safety oversight capabilities has been given a boost with the certification of the first Guyanese Aviation Security Auditor. Employed as the Manager of Aviation Security Department at the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Mr. Abraham Dorris is now certified and accredited by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as an Aviation Security Auditor to support future cycles of the ICAO Universal Security Audit Programme-Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) aimed at enhancing member States aviation security compliance and oversight capabilities.
The course was conducted during the period June 25 – July 3, 2018 at the Trinidad Civil Aviation Authority.
Guyana was among several other countries that participated in the programme including Suriname, United Kingdom, the United States of America, Venezuela, Brazil, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, and Bahrain.
Director General of the GCAA, Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field extended congratulations to Mr. Dorris on his achievement, noting that his certification and accreditation as an ICAO Aviation Security Auditor is another step for Guyana towards greater compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). Col. Field said Guyana stands ready to support the ICAO in executing its mandate to ensure member States in the Region are compliant with the SARPs found within the various Annexes of the global aviation oversight body.
